Writing

Writing is like a process, a set of actions to complete a project. I am not creative. I prefer to write on informational topics. I do not prefer to write on creative topics.  At work, I mainly write on informational topics like on Microsoft Outlook, Spreadsheets, E-mails, Award Statements, Speeches, Work Classroom Topics, and Memos. These kinds of topics are easy to write about, it is what I know. The words just flow from the keyboard. Writing for a course is easier if it is a demonstration of knowledge of some topic of study, to analyze, synthesize, and elaborate on the information.
I am a nontraditional student. I took Composition One in 1994. I have taken a variety of other college and military courses since then. I have over one-hundred thirty hours counted by the University of Oklahoma. Twenty-one hours were taken here at OU. Yet, I still have no bachelor's degree and have avoided Composition Two.  I will be finish with my bachelor's degree in Administrative Leadership by spring 2012. The same time I will be graduating with my degree my son will graduate from high school.
Frankly, and I am ashamed to say, but my writing style from high school was to write just enough to get by. I recall my writing to use the least amount of words needed to complete the assignment. I also remember having to write five sentence paragraphs- one introductory, one topic, two informational, and one conclusion sentences. However as an adult, I am able to elaborate more, not follow the strict five sentence paragraph model, and expand my writing vocabulary.
When the topic of writing is brought up, I feel somewhat apprehensive if it is a part of an assignment for a college course. If the writing is a result of a work assignment, I am not the least bit concerned. I can prepare for a two hour course to be taught to other work colleagues or to soldiers awaiting basic training or advanced individual training with little or no trials. But ask me to write on a creative topic, not unlike this topic, I must confess I'm out of my comfort zone and generally rethink each word and concept. Even after reviewing the work, I have written. I still feel my writing is not the least bit interesting.
